Do you know to excel in the finance/banking industry we need some non-financial skills instead of mathematics calculations?
If we are not able to apply these non-financial skills, we can't make it big. It would be just a job, nothing else. Possibility to reach the zenith of success are very less.
Non-financial skills which are required to reach " Sky's limit " are as under:
1) Communication skills- Finance and banking professionals not only play with numbers but also they should have strong communication skills. They must be able to communicate their knowledge through strong speaking, writing and presentations skills. They should know how to communicate complex information to investors or prospects in a way it can be understood easily.
2)Marketing and Sales skills- If we look around the world, we will get to know that every professional is selling. let's take an example of a doctor, he/she is selling his medical knowledge which he/she has acquired during his/her M.B.B.S. That is the only reason patients trust him blindly. He can prescribe the medicines for the mutual benefits.
Thus a finance and banking professional need to market himself to the client, he shouldn't tell how much he knows but how much he cares,because the client most valuable assets and their daily concerns are not his monetary wealth but their family long term needs.
3) Relationship management skills- The Sales and marketing in finance/banking is not like just handover the product to your end customer and fly away like a passing fade. The people skills we need to excel in this sector. That is why it is very important for a finance professional to maintain a healthy relationship with customer. For that he needs to study the personality type of his customers.
4) Problem solving skills- There are two ways to solve a problem.
1) Run away- " Bhag Lo"
2) Participate- " Bhag Lo"
We will always encounter some problems in any job, we should participate in it rather than just avoiding it.
5) Technological savvy- It doesn't matter where we are working as finance professional, we need to be proficient with computer hardware and software.In the new era of technology even a single prospect is "Tech savvy". They have ample of information for our product. The word " Tech savvy" is not limited to the extent of computer, it includes everything from a computer to High tech devices.
Putting it all together-the clients are looking for not only knowledge/numbers but also wisdom/interpretation. The bottom line is you will emerge as a leader by combining your ability to analyze the numbers with skills such as communication, relationship management, sales and problem solving.
